The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), Zamfara Command, seized nine bags containing 450 kg of gemstones from illegal miners.
The command also said it seized eight motorcycles, seized a firearm and arrested 10 suspects.
The command’s spokesman, Mr. Ikor Oche, made the point during a press conference in Gusau on Wednesday.
Oche said, “Acting on intelligence, the command deployed a team of personnel to the illegal mining site and the center where the mining products were processed into finished products.
“Seven of the suspects were arrested at the mining center, while the other three were arrested at the processing center, both located in the Matusgi area of the Talata Mafara local government area of the state.”

He said two of the staff injured in the operation are currently receiving treatment at their homes.
“The ordinance prohibiting mining activities in the state is still in effect.
“Therefore, anyone found in the act of mining will be dealt with decisively,” he warned.
Oche therefore advised the public to stay away from illegal mining as the command was enforcing the banning order and was now ready to deal with any violators. (NOPE)
