Kiely Rodni: Police urge public to search for missing teenager’s gold chain as search intensifies

NEVADA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: Authorities are urging the public to keep an eye out for Kiely Rodni’s jewelry as the search for the missing 16-year-old enters its sixth day.

Investigators are no closer to getting answers as to the whereabouts of the missing teenager and have now released photos of her jewelery to aid search efforts. The Placer County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that it was struggling to find leads in the case despite receiving more than 500 tips from across the country. Kiely was last seen just after midnight on Saturday August 6, at an end-of-school party at the Prosser family campground, where hundreds of teenagers and young adults had gathered in Woods. Her phone was disabled around the same time, prompting authorities to investigate the matter as it was a kidnapping given her car was also missing.

Placer County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Angela Musallam urged the public to contact authorities if they come across a gold chain that Kiely allegedly wore on the night of her disappearance. “We are told that she always wears this type of jewelry,” Musallam said during a press conference on Thursday, August 11. “We would like anyone to meet [this necklace] please contact us immediately as this would certainly provide us with a new tip and direction.”

Speaking to The Independent on Thursday, Kiely’s mother, Lindsey Rodni-Nieman, said her daughter had originally planned to accompany her to a car show in Reno on Friday night, but texted her during the day saying she was going to the party instead. “There was this classic car show in Reno — she’s so dynamic, she loves everything from fiddling to car shows — and she might go see drag races with us there,” Lindsey said.

The devastated mother recalled how she and her daughter discussed the plan on Friday morning August 5, which was the last time they saw each other. “Later that day, Kiely then texted that she was going to a party instead of going to the car show. She had been to the car show before and there was this party. to Prosser,” Lindsey added.

Kiely’s close friend Samantha Smith told The Independent on Monday August 8 that she was the last person to speak to the teenager by phone at around 12.30am on Saturday. The two had originally arranged for Kiely to drive Smith home after the party, but the former had been drinking and “was in no condition to drive”. They then spoke on the phone at some point during the party and told each other to come home safely. “At 12:36 a.m. she called me…and that was the last call anyone had with her. We said ‘I love you, good night’. Go home safe,’ and that’s the last thing we heard from her,” Samantha said. A $50,000 reward has been announced for information leading to Kiely, and his relatives have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the search effort.
