Jeweler Kendra Scott makes Mother’s Day a company party

Kendra Scott is adding a new company-wide paid vacation to her list.

The jewelry retailer will observe company-paid annual leave for all employees on the Monday following Mother’s Day, which falls on May 8 this year. In accordance with its corporate leave policy, Kendra Scott’s retail, customer service and distribution employees will be paid time and a half on Mondays after Mother’s Day and the corporate office of Kendra Scott will be closed.

“Family comes first at Kendra Scott,” said Kendra Scott, Brand Founder and Executive Chairman. “On this Mother’s Day, I wanted to give our employees a day to take the time to celebrate themselves and their families. Beginning this year, we declare Mother’s Day an annual Kendra Scott holiday, providing time for recognition and celebration.

The company noted that over the past year, parents have continued to feel the effects of the pandemic balancing full-time jobs and caring for their families. 40% of mothers are reported to have added more than 3 hours of daily care to their schedule.

“Recognizing that a mother can be defined in many different ways, the corporate holiday aims to celebrate all supportive parenting and give all employees more time to spend with family, honoring their own parent figures as they ‘hear and take quality time for themselves,” the company said.

The initiative follows the Kendra Scott Personal Leave Fund for Mother’s Day 2021, which provided $2,000 each to 50 mothers across the country to recognize a well-deserved leave and draw attention to the unpaid parental care that is so often overlooked.

Like a brand, Kendra Scott supports women through various initiatives throughout the year, including the Kendra Scott Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute at UT Austin, the Kendra Gives Back program (which allows community members to organize events in store for important causes), the Kendra Cares program (where the brand brings its customizable color bar to children’s hospitals across the country); her work with breast cancer awareness and more.

Kendra Scott has over 115 stand-alone stores across the United States and is sold at retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Dillard’s and nearly 1,000 specialty shops worldwide.
