As with most of Kristopher Kites’ jewelry, her necklace in collaboration with Mattel Creations is a centerpiece. The large 4 inch long pendant dangles from an iridescent translucent resin chain that is just as thick.

Fortunately, for those who would find this chain too garish for everyday use, it doubles as a playful display piece with custom stand.

The designer’s signature style is rooted in his love for art and cartoon figurines, which he recontextualizes into pieces of plastic jewelry that take inspiration from the hip-hop scene and the extravagant and sometimes oversized chains worn by many of its protagonists. This has led to her work being worn by everyone from LeBron James to J Balvin and Post Malone.

For someone who finds much of their inspiration in the wonders of childhood, working with toy maker and entertainment company Mattel Creations has made Kites travel free.

As part of the collaboration, the designer paid tribute to Orko, the wacky but loyal wizard from Mattel’s witchcraft-themed franchise, Masters of the Universe. A 3D version of the character acts as a transparent pendant. With a distinctive look compromising a large hat, long robe, and pointy ears, the wizard cradles his own large chain for the room.

More than just a wearable piece of art, the pendant comes with a designated stand that allows you to display the collectible in your home as well as around your chest. The custom holder lights up when Orko is placed on it, illuminating his body a purple hue.

Speaking of collaboration on Twitter, Kites said he was “really on the south side in the neighborhood watching Masters of the Universe frrrr and now I have to collaborate with Mattel.” Loop moment for the artist and designer, his own interpretation of one of the characters from the series is now available on Highsnobiety Shop.
