DCL develops a counterfeit detection test for gemstones…

dubai : The Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) of Dubai Municipality has developed a detection test to assess the authenticity of gemstones, precious metals and amber stones that may be processed with plastic.

Laboratory specialists have developed different tests that use laser technology to distinguish between treated and untreated amber stones, keeping consumers informed about the quality and authenticity of the gemstones they are purchasing. Consumers can now know what types of processing the amber stone has undergone i.e. heat treatment or whether the cavities have been tampered with plastic.

DCL has played a major role in developing various tests beneficial to customers in different industries, including consumables and commodities, power, electronics efficiency and safety, and building materials. Innovation being one of its core values, Dubai Municipality has always stressed the importance of research and studies to develop innovative and advanced examination methods to increase the efficiency of these tests.

It should be noted that the Gemological Institute of America recently published a white paper on DCL’s Gemstone and Precious Metals Testing Laboratory.
